“the story of my life”

On the second day at camp, Laurene came by again to sit with the campers to share her life story, starting from her childhood days to motherhood.  She talked of where she was from, her schooling days, families, being a mother to her three kids, and so forth.

The campers were intrigued by her stories, as Laurene continued to share her experiences.

It was great having Laurene with all of us, because some of the campers pointed out in their daily logs, that they enjoyed her presentation and could relate to it in many ways.

So thank you Laurene for swinging by! 🙂

Laurene Simms drops by!

Laurene Simms stopped by for few days to greet the campers, as they all were keen to meet her!  And Laurene wanted to see how DYCC is doing, after all, this camp is her dream!  She has worked very hard for two years with several other members to make this camp happen.  We were very pleased to see her here at the camp!  🙂

Joel Garcia and Mia Sanchez worked together to build our first campfire, and we had smores!  Delicious!!

Outbound Activities

After breakfast, all campers went outside to meet with Clint Woosley who led the outbound activities.  These activities involved critical-thinking, team-work, cooperation, and communication.  Very challenging games!
Here are few snapshots:

Hi from Portland!

Welcome to our wordpress site!  DYCC will be activating this site on a daily basis to upload pictures, blogs, and videos of our campers and staff.  We are thrilled that all of our campers have reached Portland, Oregon safely!

Let’s start off with an introduction of DYCC?

Deaf Youth Camp of Color. The nation’s leading empowerment and leadership camp program designed for a group of deaf and hard of hearing high school students of color.

Twelve campers have come altogether, each from different corners of America, to establish the first diverse youth team! To keep you posted during this camp, we have set up an account on Twitter and WordPress. We hope you will check repeatedly on our daily video logs, blogs, and pictures. Thank you!
